Marjorie Wechsler
Education Policy AnalystMarjorie Wechsler, Ed.D, has worked on a variety of national, state, and local research and evaluation projects in K-12 reform, with a focus on urban education. Her recent work has concentrated on teacher development throughout the teaching career, including preparation, induction, and continuing professional development. She also specializes in school- and district-level reform, and understanding how districts can support the work of schools and their reform efforts and promote strong instructional practices. Dr. Wechsler has experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods, including case study design, qualitative data collection and analysis, survey design and analysis, and the integration of data from multiple sources.
Dr. Wechsler is currently project director for an early implementation study of Chicago’s High School Transformation initiative, and a senior researcher for the evaluation of Chicago’s Renaissance 2010 initiative. She also is directing a study of new teacher induction in the Midwest, and serves as senior researcher on the Teaching and California’s Future project, a comprehensive study of the status of teaching in California, including an examination of the recruitment, training, induction, professional development, and compensation of teachers. Previously, Dr. Wechsler directed a 3-year national study of alternative teacher certification designed to identify normative standards for effective alternative certification programs. She served as project director of the formative evaluation of the Bay Area School Reform Collaborative (BASRC), the San Francisco Bay Area’s Hewlett-Annenberg Challenge Grant.
Dr. Wechsler received her Ed.D. in education administration and policy analysis at Stanford University. Prior to her work in education policy analysis, Dr. Wechsler earned her elementary teaching credential and taught kindergarten in a private school.
