Katrina Woodworth

Senior Researcher

Katrina Woodworth, Ph.D., is a Senior Researcher in SRI’s Center for Education Policy in Menlo Park, California. She has a long record of research on K-12 school reform efforts and a special interest in the education of linguistically and culturally diverse student populations. Dr. Woodworth has experience with qualitative and quantitative research methods, including qualitative data collection and analysis, survey design and analysis, and the integration of data from multiple sources.

Dr. Woodworth is currently the principal investigator for a 3-year study of KIPP schools located in the San Francisco Bay Area. KIPP, or the Knowledge is Power Program, is an unusual attempt to create schools for historically underserved students that dramatically increases the amount of instructional time and the efficiency of learning during that time. The primary goals of the evaluation are to describe how the KIPP model works on the ground and how it affects teachers and students, and to understand KIPP student achievement relative to the achievement of similar students in traditional or other school settings.

Dr. Woodworth also directs a study on the status of arts education in California. The study examines students’ access to arts education in California schools, including how access has changed over time and the extent to which access varies by key demographic characteristics. Finally, Dr. Woodworth is involved in the Teaching and California’s Future project, an ongoing study of the status of the teaching profession in California.

Dr. Woodworth is a graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Education’s doctoral program in Administration, Planning, and Social Policy.
