Community Services and Strategies
Program Manager - Kathleen HebbelerStaff of the Community Services and Strategies Program conduct research and evaluations addressing interrelationships among children, families, and communities, recognizing that children and families can achieve their full potential only when their communities are healthy and supportive.
The program focuses on community-based interventions and includes participatory evaluations carried out with local community-based organizations and randomized field experiments. We also assess community-building strategies—communities’ efforts to identify and mobilize their resources to address a community-identified need. In contrast to discrete categorical program models, these multifaceted strategies cross organizational and sector boundaries and are unique to their individual communities.
SRI evaluations of community-based services and strategies are multiyear and multimethod. Our work also includes assisting program developers, such as foundations and other funders, to conceptualize the key components of new community-based efforts and to articulate pathways to expected outcomes. We also have provided technical assistance on using evaluation to support community-building and have produced guidebooks to assist communities in conducting evaluations.
