Santa Clara County Regional Partnership Grant for Children Affected by Methamphetamine or Other Substance Abuse
Santa Clara County Social Services Agency/Department of Family and Children’s Services and other regional partners (including Santa Clara Superior Court, FIRST 5 Santa Clara County, and Santa Clara County Health and Human Services/Department of Drug and Alcohol Services) were awarded a 5-year federal grant from the Administration for Children, Youth and Families, Children’s Bureau, Office on Child Abuse and Neglect to improve the permanency outcomes for children affected by methamphetamine or other substance abuse through a coordinated set of services offered through a new Family Wellness Court for Infants and Toddlers (FWC). SRI is examining the implementation and impact of the FWC intervention on the well-being of mothers and their young children who are in an out-of-home placement or are at risk of being placed out of the home as a result of a mother’s methamphetamine or other substance abuse. The evaluation compares the outcomes of a group of mothers, their male partners, and their children who participate in the FWC intervention with a randomly selected sample of mothers and children whose similar cases were not referred to a family drug treatment court intervention. The evaluation also incorporates a core set of service capacity, child, and adult/family performance indicators that will be used nationally by all or clusters of the Regional Partnership Grants.
