Sangeeta Mallik
Research Social ScientistSangeeta Mallik, Ph.D., has extensive experience studying developmental outcomes of infants and toddlers with disabilities, including infant-caregiver attachment, early social communication, and behavioral development of at-risk children. She also has focused on child care issues and evaluations of early intervention and other programs serving young children and their families.
At SRI, Dr. Mallik has participated in research design, data collection, analysis, and dissemination activities for several projects involving young children with special needs. Currently, she is actively involved in data analysis and dissemination activities for the National Early Intervention Longitudinal Study, which followed more than 3,300 children with disabilities or at risk for disabilities and their families through their experiences in early intervention and into early elementary school. In addition, she is on the staff of the Early Childhood Outcomes (ECO) Center, funded by the Office of Special Education Programs, U.S. Department of Education. The ECO Center seeks to promote the development and implementation of child and family outcome measures for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers with disabilities that can be used in local, state, and national accountability systems. Dr. Mallik also is a reviewer on the What Works Clearinghouse team and is involved in research reviews of studies on the effectiveness of educational interventions (programs, products, practices, and policies).
Dr. Mallik participated in an evaluation of the Local Investment in Child Care program, which promoted the availability and sustainability of high-quality child care in eight communities in California. Dr. Mallik also worked on the school readiness component of the Statewide Data Collection and Evaluation of First 5 California Funded Programs. She was a researcher and evaluation liaison on the First 5 Special Needs Project (SNP), which worked with families, caregivers, child care providers, educators, and other service providers to support young children with a broad spectrum of special needs as an integral part of the First 5 School Readiness Initiative.
Dr. Mallik has presented findings at numerous conferences, has coauthored several papers on children with special needs and their families, and is currently working on several publications related to her research. She received her Ph.D. in applied developmental psychology from the University of Miami, Coral Gables.
