Kathryn Morrison
Research AnalystKathryn Morrison works on numerous projects in the area of disability policy, particularly as it relates to young children. She is involved in analysis and dissemination of data from the National Early Intervention Longitudinal Study (NEILS), which examined the experiences and outcomes of more than 3,300 infants and toddlers with or at risk for disabilities. Ms. Morrison is also part of SRI’s Early Childhood Outcomes (ECO) Center, which assists states as they develop systems to measure the outcomes achieved by children with disabilities and their families.
Ms. Morrison has worked extensively in the area of alternate assessment development. She is project manager for the Alternate Assessment Design–Mathematics project. Funded by an Enhance Assessment Grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the project is helping the states of Utah, Florida, and Idaho to improve the technical quality of their alternate assessments in mathematics for students with significant cognitive disabilities. Ms. Morrison is a task coordinator for the Technical Assistance for Improving the Oklahoma Modified Alternate Assessment Program project. Funded by a General Supervision Enhancement Grant, this project is working to improve Oklahoma’s alternate assessment based on modified alternate achievement standards. She is also part of the team conducting the National Study on Alternate Assessments (NSAA), a study of the alternate assessments for students with significant cognitive disabilities in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Ms. Morrison’s past projects include the First 5 School Readiness (SR) Initiative evaluation, a substudy of the Statewide Data Collection and Evaluation of First 5 California Funded Programs. The SR evaluation collected data on cohorts of kindergartners over several years to determine which services and supports best prepare California’s children to succeed in kindergarten. She was part of the team that conducted the Special Study of High-Quality Preschools, another First 5 substudy. Ms. Morrison was an integral part of the team that designed the Pre-Elementary Education Longitudinal Study (PEELS), which gathers information about the experiences, outcomes, and kindergarten transitions of preschoolers with special needs. Her work on these projects included survey design, project management, on-site data collection through classroom assessments and focus groups, liaison work with schools and early intervention programs, data analysis, and report writing.
Ms. Morrison holds a B.S. in biology from Santa Clara University and a M.S. in physical therapy from Boston University.
